Aisling Farm

"Striving for a more natural way of living."

We are a small family farm located in scenic Warren County, New Jersey just outside of the historic Moravian Village of Hope.

We raise our animals as naturally as possible in a caring and compassionate environment.  All of our animals are considered part of the family (or maybe they consider us part of the herd?).  In addition to goat keeping we also have miniature horses, ponies and a flock of Ameracuna, Barred Rock and Buff Orphington chickens.

The Nigerian Dwarf Goat

Nigerian Dwarves are a miniature dairy goat breed which has it's origins in West Africa.  They are very friendly, playful and naturally curious. Their small stature allows for easier handling and the ability to keep more animals on a smaller parcel of land as compared to their larger dairy counterparts.

Does generally mature to 17 -21" at the withers and 55 - 65 lbs by the time they are 2 years old.  Bucks can range between 19 - 23" at the withers and 75- 85 lbs when fully matured.

Adding to their already BIG personalities the Nigerian dwarf has the unique characteristic of being born in a wide range of color variations with their coats ranging from solid to patterned. Their eye color can also be brown or china blue.

"A Mini Mighty Milking Machine"

In older times the goat was known as "the poor man's cow".  Today goat milk is gaining popularity due to the excellent nutritional value and easier digestbility as compared to cows milk.

The Nigerian Dwarf can produce up to two (2) plus quarts of milk per day making them the ideal personal milker for the average size family. The milk produced is higher in butterfat (6 - 10%) and protein then standard breed dairy goats and cows.

The Pygora Goat

Pygora's are a fairly "young" breed of fiber goats with it's origins based in the United States.  They were the result of cross breeding purbred Angora goats with purebred Pygmy goats. The resulting Pygora is a medium to small sized goat which can produce three different fiber types;

Type A fiber is a fine mohair type and generally tests less than 28 micron count.

Type B fiber has the characteristics of both mohair and cashmere and has a micron count less than 24.

Type C fiber is very fine and accepted as commerical grade cashmere with a micron count at or below 18.5.

The pygora is an inquisitive and gentle goat. Their fiber is generally sheared twice a year, in the fall and early spring.  With some types of fiber the fleece can be hand plucked or combed out over the course of a couple of weeks.

Our Nigerian Dwarves are registered with the American Goat Society (AGS) and our Pygora's are registered with the Pygora Breeders Association (PBA).
